Localization means that products are appropriated for a different market. A Japanese product can, for instance, be localized for a Western or Dutch market, or vice versa. Localization is more than just translating. Knowledge of the market or a certain technical knowledge may also be necessary.

Localization is most often appropriating software or websites for different countries, but also audiovisual material, books or newspapers. Below you can find a couple of examples.

Nowadays a website is often seen as the business card of a business or individual. In addition, someone from Japan can visit a website from the Netherlands with the same ease as one from Japan. It is therefore important that your website contains all the information you want in a form that appeals to the visitor. A translation of your website to Japanese could open up a big new market for you. But if you want to do it right, a translation is not enough. It is also important to keep the text, format and design in line with the conventions used in the country you want to target. Of course you want to make a good impression there, just like in your own country.

We have the knowledge to localize websites for you. We can also, if you wish, develop the entire website for you, in multiple languages when requested. We have got all the necessary knowledge of the language and copywriting, as well as the technical skills to make your website dynamic. It could also be that we outsource the design, but that depends completely on your needs.

We can also localize software for you. This means that we do not only take care of the translation of the texts in the software and appropriating this for other markets, but we also test it to make sure everything works properly. Of course, this does not just apply to the software itself, but also to the manual and other possible accompanying accessories. We can also advise you about possible changes needed for a release in Japan for example.

Comics and cartoons (manga)

Manga (Japanese comics) nowadays are very popular outside Japan as well. We have, as a result, translated quite a lot of manga from Japanese to Dutch. Think for example about popular series such as Rurouni Kenshin and Houshin Engi. We can simply translate the texts for you, but also place it inside the drawings for you.

We frequently provide subtitles for audiovisual material. Subtitling is a different skill from simply interpreting or translating, as space is limited and timing important. Until now we have mainly provided subtitles for programs and news items for public broadcasters, but in essence the subject or medium does not make a difference: we can also subtitle audiovisual material for private use.

It is possible that we translate what is said for you and you can create the subtitles, or we can be in charge of the entire process.
